Drill Press Cabinet

A drill press cabinet to store bits and accessories.

This is a drill press cabinet I built to store my woodworking accessories. I made it to fit my Bosch table top drill press. It has 11 drawers with various heights for drill bits, router bits, screws, bolts, and miscellaneous accessories.

Before I made this cabinet I had all my accessories scattered around the shop in various boxes and containers, and it was getting very difficult to find what I needed. This OCD-friendly cabinet has made my life much easier.

The cabinet is made from 1/2" birch plywood and Ipe hardwood for the drawer sliders. The cabinet is mounted on casters so it can be easily moved around the shop.

Cutting the parts

As you can see, this cabinet is made from a lot of parts. Not only does it have 11 drawers, but it also has a lot of internal dividers and even the drawer sliders are made of wood. Cutting it all out was a lot of work, but it was worth it in the end.

Building the box

The first step was to build the box. Then I mounted the drawer sliders. To make sure the drawers would slide smoothly, I used Ipe hardwood for the sliders. In hind sight, I should have mounted the drawer sliders before building the box. This would've allowed me to make sure the sliders were perfectly aligned, and it would have been easier to mount them.

Building the drawers

I made the drawers in such a way that they could extend fully without falling out. I did that by leaving some space at the back of the drawer. The shallow drawers had to be slightly narrower to allow for the drawer sliders of the drawers above them.

Putting it all together

Seeing everything come together was very satisfying. I finally had a place for all my accessories, and I could easily find what I needed.
